At the dawn of the AI storm, we tested hundreds of plugins that use generative AI to speed up our design tasks on Figma.
Here are the results of the best plugins we found.

Our criteria for compiling this list:
Time saved using the plugin
Ease of use of the plugin
Requirement to register and/or pay to use the plugin
Note: Before diving into two days of research, we anticipated finding an abundance of impressive plugins. However, the general level is quite low. Only a handful of tools stand out. The chips will fall when Figma introduces its integrated AI copilot... Until then, here is the ranking:
The must-have plugins

Icons8 Background Remover
It's the only background removal plugin that doesn't require login or an API key. It's super easy to use. Truly a must-have plugin. Use the plugin.

Image Tracer
Transform your images into vectors. It's the plugin we use the most at Side School. It saves a lot of time and allows quick customization of images and icons. Use the plugin.

AI Image Generator
If you're not paying for Midjourney or Dall-E, it's the best AI image generator available on Figma. The plugin is fast, helps you formulate better prompts, and is a good way to start a design. Use the plugin.

AI Image Upscaler
Directly within Figma, the plugin is perfect for enhancing the quality of all types of images, including avatars, background images, and Midjourney renderings. Works for JPG and transparent PNGs. Use the plugin.

data.to.design
This plugin allows data injection directly into Figma. For example, by placing a Google Sheets file containing hundreds of poster descriptions, and, having designed a “template” layout, generating hundreds of image variations to export easily. Even though the interface isn't very intuitive and the plugin takes some time to set up, the time savings it offers is enormous, especially in combination with tools like V7 Go. Use the plugin.
Essential plugins for web design

Relume
This plugin has become essential if you design sites with Webflow or frequently create sitemaps and wireframes. The only downside: you need to register on their platform, and you are quickly invited to upgrade to the paid version. Use the plugin.

Musho
Musho is truly impressive. It's the essential AI tool for generating web pages from a simple prompt. In 2024, it does a better job of creating new sites from scratch than any other tool we know. You can easily turn mockups into websites using the “Figma to Framer” plugin, for example. Use the plugin.

HTML.to.Design
This tool is excellent for remixing websites you like. You can use it with the “Figma Autoname” plugin to get more readable layer names. Use the plugin.

Figma Autoname
Perfect when you have many layers to export or hand over to a developer. Use the plugin.

Figma to Framer & Figma to Webflow
This plugin becomes extremely powerful when combined with the other plugins mentioned. It’s not strictly an AI plugin, but it transforms Figma designs into websites in seconds. You can also use Figma to Webflow. Use the plugin.
Useful but less essential plugins

UI Faces
Small tool useful for quickly getting faces in avatars that don't resemble the overused portraits from Unsplash. Use the plugin.

PersonAI
A good plugin to keep on hand when designing new interfaces or websites from scratch: it helps focus your design on solving problems for a clear and defined persona. Use the plugin.

Automator
Useful for creating batches of similar images (social media posts, profile headers, etc.). It's not easy to start playing with this plugin; you need to learn to use it with the provided templates. Use the plugin.
